In Cairns, students can choose between staying with host families, sharing a flat or house, or staying in hostels or hotels.

Host families: There are many types of host families - from large families with children to single-person households (in most cases older landladies). All host families are carefully selected and regularly inspected. When placing students, also special dietary, health or religious requirements are taken into consideration.
Travel time to school is normally 10 - 40 minutes. Dinner is usually taken between 6.30 and 7.30 p.m. and offers the best opportunity to converse with members of the host family.
The stay with a host family includes:
breakfast and dinner (as well as lunch at weekends), electricity, a private bedroom and use of the facilities of the house.

Shared flats and houses: The flats and houses are located closeby to Eurocentres Cairns and travel time to school is between 5-15 minutes. This is basic “budget” style accommodation but offers clean and comfortable rooms as well as a communal bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Accommodation includes an airport transfer service.

Hostels and hotels are located throughout Cairns. There are many standards of accommodation, from comfortable but basic two-star up to luxury five-star establishments.

Apartments: If you will be staying for a longer period in Cairns, you may decide to rent an apartment. Rents vary according to size, condition and location of the apartment.

Students wishing to rent an apartment in Cairns should budget approximately AUD 150 - 420 per week. Also, a deposit of generally four weeks rent, is payable in advance, which is refundable at the end of the tenancy, provided the property has not been damaged. There may also be other fees involved, like approximately AUD 80.00 for the electricity connection, AUD 50.00 for the reconnection of an existing telephone line, or approximately AUD 250.00 for the installation of a new line – plus a deposit of AUD 500.00 for international access (IDD). The latter can be waived against presentation of credit card details.
